Welcoming Remarks and Keynote

Keynote Title: 'Creating High-Quality Learning Environments for Every Child Utilizing Principles of Ideal Learning.'

Keynote description: The ability to participate in quality early learning should not be limited by location, race, ethnicity, ability, primary language, or socioeconomic status. Ideal learning environments embrace principles that include a commitment to play, relationship-based interactions; an ecologically- focused, child-centered perspective; equity; and a strength-based and inquiry-based approach with children, adults and families. In this session, you will observe these principles in action, learn more about how ideal learning approaches create high-quality learning experiences for every child, and engage in discussion with colleagues about how you already use and could expand the use of these principles in your classrooms.

There Are Many Ways to Hold a Baby!
Although we know that preschoolers are not born at 3 years old, how do our ECE programs use youngsters' prior experiences to drive curriculum? Children are socialized in the contexts of their families. Our preschoolers hail from a wide variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds that reflect values that may differ from those of our programs. How do we incorporate children's and family's funds of knowledge to develop culturally responsive and sustaining ECE programs in real time?
